What is Podcast Workers Australia?
Podcast Workers Australia (PWA) is a group of podcast professionals who have come together to advocate for a fairer industry.
Is PWA a union?
PWA is not a registered union.
What is PWA’s connection with the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA)?
PWA collaborates with and supports the MEAA and other unions. The PWA are best able to advocate for podcast workers’ needs by operating as an independent group.
Why does PWA exist?
PWA exists for podcast workers specifically. This means it’s able to add nuance and context for the unique challenges that crop up in our fast-changing industry. By doing this work and being organised, it’s easier and more effective to advocate for a fairer industry.
Why join PWA?
Joining the PWA is an act of solidarity. It’s a chance to contribute and help shape the future of the Australian podcast industry. You’ll also meet a passionate community of future collaborators.
How much does it cost to join PWA?
Membership is free and voluntary.
What is the structure of PWA?
Podcast Workers Australia is organised by democratically-elected Community Organisers who volunteer their time on an unpaid basis. Anyone from the Australian podcasting industry can join, attend meetings, make proposals, and vote on other people’s proposals. To find out more read our Community Guidelines and Accountability and Complaints documents.
How often do you meet?
PWA holds online organising meetings at 5:30pm (AEST) on the last Wednesday of the month. We try to keep the meetings to 45 minutes to value members’ time. To be notified of meetings you can join PWA (which is free!)
How can I get involved in Podcast Workers Australia?
If you are involved in the Australian podcasting industry then you are invited to join PWA. From there, you’ll find out about our social events and meetings through the email list.
